Cool in autumn, is another year school season. On September 1, 2022, under the organization of STEP University, leaders and engineers from R&D technology, process engineering, quality and other departments of the company gathered to participate in the two-day training of "DFM- Manufacturing-oriented Reliability Design" in Meiyu Road factory of STEP Company in Shanghai.



As the company's new projects and new technology constantly emerging, in the process of new product development and import, often encounter import process smoothly not result in new products development time is too long, not only affect the delivery date, also due to the bad product and process design, product quality problem, on-line batch production produce a lot of trouble. Therefore, how to shorten the development cycle, improve the quality of product design and product technology level, reduce the design cost, avoid batch quality problems, product research and development must face the problem, is also the urgent need to solve the new topic in the research and development work.



Before the training began, Mr. Qian Wei, the assistant director of STEP University, introduced the significance and purpose of the course to the students. He encouraged them to learn DFM knowledge hard and apply manufacturing oriented design concepts and methods to the company's project research and development.



After the training began, Mr. Huang Wei, senior consultant of Zhiyuan, first introduced the definition of DFM -- Design For Manufacturing. Then it explains in detail DFM and concurrent engineering, DFM and error prevention design, the design of fixture in DFM project, and the production process and logistics design in DFM project. Also introduced the DFM quality management, parts BOM management, product data management, project engineering change management and other important management methods.


In the whole training process, Mr. Huang interspersed many years of factory management experience cases, and vividly explained the course so that students could easily understand the course. In class and in spare time, Mr. Huang explained and interacted with students patiently and carefully.



Two days of training content is very rich, through this course learning, broadened the students' ideas and cognitive aspects of product development. Further, from the perspective of product lifecycle management PLM, I understand and master the method and logical thinking of new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing-oriented reliability design (DFM) tool in project development, which lays a good foundation for the subsequent application in product development. We also believe that the good practices of students in the subsequent development projects can better support the implementation of new product introduction projects in terms of manufacturing reliability.
